A Birth of a Project

Many people ask me what led me to the idea of this project. Well….I can't really put my finger on one thing, but I do know it has to do with last year…
Last year I was an exchange student in Barcelona for eight months.
I was walking in the Ramblas, riding the metro from one place to another, admiring Gaudy's architecture and then it suddenly hit me: I was somewhere else.
I was still me, but my environment was different and it even showed in my work.
The transformation from a holy-stiff environment to a carefree environment made me think about all kinds of environments, cultures and influences, and about it's effect on creativity. What leads us to our creation? How effected are we by our surroundings?

These questions and others had occupied me since, so when I came back to Jerusalem I have decided to look more into it.
I've also thought about all these artists and designers that we all know as icons. Non of us really think of them as individuals who always seek for ideas and creation.
I've been thinking about it together with the environmental issue and thought of a way that I could investigate it
After a thought I've decided to start this project.

Question: What do you think, does the environment effect your work?
Does your daily routine has an influence on your creative ideas?

Please share your thoughts.

The Beginning

Hi,
My name is Liat and I am a student in the Department of Visual Communication at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. As part of the fourth and last year of my studies, I have to prepare a final project which will be displayed at a large, festive exhibition on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Academy. After considerable thought, I decided that my final project should deal with important artists and creative people, living around the world, their daily routine, hobbies and habits. It should be of interest to examine what is similar and what different, the cultural, scenic and environmental differences and what a creative person goes through during the actual day. I am writing to you, as an important and interesting artist, in the hope that you will agree to take part in my project..."

Two weeks ago I've started sending these letters to my favorite designers and artists, hoping they would agree to cooperate with me. During these two weeks I've got so many different replays...Some were very nice, some were funny, others were inpatient and there has been of course some designers who said they were too busy. anyway, I find it very interesting to get to know different people from all over the world, To hear what they think, to see their replays....I enjoy it.
I'm creating this blog in order to keep in touch with all the nice and interesting people that have agreed to participate in my project, to tell you all about the process that I'm going, to hear what you think and to get all of you to get to know one another...and of course me. I know it must be weird to exchange mails with someone you don't even know, so I thought this could make it much easier. What do you guys think?
I thank you all again for your help. This project really depends on your cooperation and participation and I'm glad that so many nice and talented people are taking part in it.
Please feel free to write, to tell about your work and if possible even to upload some of it.
Thank you and have a nice day
Liat
